Brennan Ralls 2008 Race Report

Sunday the 7th of Feb saw Rnd 6 of the Slough winter series, after several cancelled events which is unheard of for the club the weekend was a go & a fantastic turn out with 7 full heats . The dirt was damp & just sticky, enough to give real high grip but not enough to clog & make the cars heavy. A good showing from kyosho With Kevin Brunsden Tommy Chung & Mike Waller. Losi & Lee Martin  AE With Tony Truman, Rob Racey & uncle Bob Ryan. Mugen team  of Pete Awesome Stevens, & Yanos.  Xray with yours truly Bren, Reece Sawyer , Dell, Eaton, Kennet added to what was to be a great day.

Sam Taylor Rallycross National Slough

People...........

So here we are again on the national scene and on our way to one of my favourite circuits of the year,
Now Slough can resemble the surface of the moon for much of the year but for the big meetings its always 'tip top turf' and as we expected it was nice and smooth but a little damp- yes you did hear that right and not one puddle!

This is one of my local tracks so no nightlife to report on at slough but im sure judging by some of the Hangovers i witnessed many of the boys found somewhere to get themselves into trouble.....

Practise started in sticky conditions and tires pretty much all worked the same after getting a coating of wet slough clay, a top ten run showed i wasn't too far away and so didn't make any changes for the start of qualifying.
Again a top ten run in the first round kept the smile on my face and only tires were to be changed for round two as by now the quick drying circuit was - drying quick!!

Brennan Ralls 2008 Race Report
This last weekend was the re run of the cancelled National at Pendle. For me 330 miles north of the far far south where i live. With the forecast to be dry had to be lucky for one of the 8 national events this year & of all events the one that it normally rains, that global warming for us best race more & put more fumes in the air.
With a quite night putting the world to rights & gassing about the worlds was suitably relaxed & set for the day ahead.

piraterc.com news

After having a weekend off for family time it was back this last weekend was a re visit to slough for Rnd 8 of the Nationals.
Rain all week again would make it sticky at first but the track drains very fast to produce a very fast surface.

Blog Update: Brennan Ralls Reports on the Apex GP (1662 Reads)

piraterc.com news

This last weeknd was the 3rd Apex GP which was held at Slough. Ive raced the previous years & normally had good results but most of all fun.
Adrian & his crew did not let us down & on arrival the track looked spot on pity the weather would make it sticky for a bit.
For me i had not raced at slough this year so it was two days practice prior to the national. With as good as a full entry racing would be fast & as the track poilished up grip was high & the track became what felt super fast.
All my qualifying runs where good but not clean so each had a bobble or marshal incident, but put it in the semi.
My day was one for testing tyres so feedback was gained & the setup honed to give for me what was a well balanced car.

Next time i will look at the map before i enter 340 miles & a 5 hour drive stupid ass.
Not so bad as 13th turned out to be lucky.
This weekend was Rnd 4 of the truggy Nat at NORC near county Durham & Newcastle ish.
left 4pm Saturday afternoon from work in Dover looking at France only 20 miles away for a pleasant drive way way up north clear run though.

Sunday was greeted with a dry day , the astro track was well set out & technical. Multiple jump section & banked corners all added up to make a very interesting track although some area's safety for the marshals was a bit suspect so you needed your wits about you.

Not really sure what to expect on driver caliber, new the uk's entry was strong, With lee darren & ed taking 1,2 & 4 in overall practice myself 21st roughly 5 seconds back the competition was good. The track was typical fast european style with several chicanes where speed was the key. The track was to blue groove during qualifying, which very few of us brits has really experienced as are tracks never really go this far.

piraterc.com news

My reports usually start off with me talking about the great British summer and how every national meeting seems to escape the blazing sunshine- this was no different so ill leave the references to mud for later on.......

The venue was Farmer Giles's field somewhere in outer Mongolia or so it seemed and as we surveyed the track the tractor he was driving looked like it would be the fastest way round!

piraterc.com news

The first and second national were to be held over the same weekend again starting at the excellent HNMC venue in Ware,
After weeks of racing in the worst conditions of all time we actually saw the sun shinning through and  my coat got a rest for the first time this season!
This was to be only the second run for me with the MBX5T and the first time on dirt so didn't really know what to expect and with a good number of top rallycross boys in attendance it was going to be tough.
Now I was warned that the driving style may differ in this class and could be slightly more rough than the buggies- it was!,
There are a few ways to describe the style of some of the driving - 'Stevie Wonder esque' would be the one that most fits the bill in my opinion, but as I was told- this is Truggy racing!!

piraterc.com news

The weekend of 4/5th May was the start of the truggy nationals at Herts, with a reasonably short run of only 100 miles so not to bad. The weather forecast looking a bit hit or miss for rain but as it turned out warm & dry all weekend which made a change to the weather of late.

Racing format would be TQ qualifying which is not really my favourite but them is the rules.
I have been trailing a new chassis for the last few meets I have raced the xt8 to answer the rumours, but it is only a test part & its something which i often do anyhow.

Blog Update: Brennan Ralls National Rnd 1 13th April Report (953 Reads)

piraterc.com news

Brennan Ralls National Rnd 1 13th April

With the warm up events cancelled & no track time at Herts I went there like many at a bit of a disadvantage compared to the locals.
The Layout would make for a fast track but would be loose & dusty as the uk weather had put payed to all the hertz guys hard work.

From the word go the 808 was good but found myself unable to find the required pace on this type of track due to my driving style, so was down the field on overall time.

Rnd 1 tried to hard & with some silly errors in the later stages cost me.
Rnd 2 found some good pace & had a reasonably clear run, one error again.
Rnd 3 it rained with a rapid tyre change by arron just made the line in time, again found some good pace, one error with the marshal struggling in the mud put me out of contention.

With plenty of hard work cleaning as the car was wrecked, found myself pole in the E. From here had a good clean start & pulled a healthy lead, I went in to cruise mode to save car, Elliot passed me on last corner but bumped into D.
With the heavens opening again & a start to forget gradually plugged away up to 7th, but with water now causing the engine to play around 7th was as far as i could go.

For myself a disastrous start to the nationals, but know this type of track i have to work on & improve on my driving for this surface as its an area where i struggle. The 808 worked well shame i did not show it justice.

Till next time or see you at Frankley & panther meet.

piraterc.com news

With the season only a few weeks away the official test day at the excellent HNMC club saw a large turnout of top national drivers making the most of the open track and fair weather.
BBK timing gear was on hand so all the teams could keep an eye on the lap times and the track as always was spectacular to watch with the cars really working to the limits on the super high speed layout.

There is some great pictures of the various top driver's cars and plenty more to read
