RB Concept RT L2G .28 Truggy Engine

The RB Products R&D department has been working for many months on the RT project to improve the drivability and fuel consumption of the .28 Truggy engine. With its 4.67cc, this incredible engine can power any Truggy, whatever its weight, while maintaining smooth acceleration and good fuel consumption! It fits most of the .21 or .25 Truggy but also the .21 off-road cars. The engine keeps the exclusive 7-Port /M.E.S. with a new combustion chamber and the low profile L2G RB head. The new crankcase has been reinforced with an over sized engine mount.

The new RB CONCEPT RT L2G cooling head lowers the centre of gravity to improve the handing of the car and the new shape increases the cooling capacity.

Truggys: XT8 & Jon Hazlewood UK National Champion 2007 (1102 Reads)
Posted by admin on Tuesday, October 09, 2007 - 04:10 AM

Xray Buggy

Race report by Jon Dell

The UK national scene returned to the fantastic Clanfield track, but this time for the final Truggy national. Xray team driver Jon Hazlewood had a shot at winning the title, but ideally needed to TQ and win the race. The week the national before we attended the Xray challenge race at the same track. Jon was fastest in qualifying, but a radio problem in the final allowed championship rival Graham Alsop to win. At that time the track was very dusty with traction low and the result only showed that the 2 drivers where very close around the track. On arrival to the track for the national it was raining, which would completely change the track surface conditions from the previous week.

With no practice, it was straight into qualifying and for the first round, it was still raining. With FTD qualifying being used we choose to run, just in case the weather got worse. Jon was fastest in the round by 5 seconds with a time that would get him into the main final. It seemed that the rain had stopped by now and a dry line was just starting to come through. This also meant the track was getting bumpy, but the trucks could handle this easily. 2nd round, and the track was now faster. Jon didn't have the best of runs with understeer in the gripper conditions not allowing the Truggy to turn fast enough. Graham Alsop and his Hoboa had a good run to top the times with Jon recovering to 2nd. For the final round we changed tyres and rear toe-in. this got the Truggy turning better, but again a clear run was not possible. Graham gaining pole position was not good for the championship and meant Jon had to win with Graham lower than 3rd.

Xray XT8 Truggy Assembly Review: By PIRATERC

Xray have really produced some top quality buggy's now the enter the realms of the truggy market with there latest offering the Luxury XRAY XT8 having received my new truggy from Tooleys R/C Toys ( Thank you very much) it was time to get stuck into assembly unlike the Race roller option Losi used with there Losi 8ight - T where only part assembly was required the XT8 is a complete kit format. and requires total construction. This is a great way to build any car as you become familiar with the way it all fits together. Allowing you to identify and replace any part with the least amount of time and giving you a sound knowledge of how the whole truggy fits together.

XT8 Truggy... A Long Time in Coming, But Worth the Wait

With the shipping of our brand new NT1 and the new version of the XB8, this afforded us the time to finally concentrate all of our resources and energy to finish the very last project on our schedule, the new XT8 truggy. This project took much longer time than I had thought, and had to be delayed so many times that I started to get a bad feeling that there was some weird karma at work. Having the first prototypes already done almost two years ago, I thought it would be super easy and fast to build the whole truggy and to produce it quickly; however as is typical, from small issues big concerns developed and the headaches from this project became a bigger and bigger as time went on but at the end of the project the happiness from a perfectly well done job was even greater and I am very pleased with this new car and very confident of its success.

Two years ago when we started to work on this project I was confident (or “optimistic” in hindsight) that it would almost make itself, since there were not many new moulds required and we could easily use most of the parts from the XB8. The first idea I was playing with was to go with the market trend of the time – to use regular off-road arms and just to make longer wheel adapters. Preparing the first prototype and seeing the outcome, I was sure that with short arms and such long wheel hubs there was no chance that the truggy would handle easily. After a few short tests my suspicions were confirmed; the car was simply terrible and I was more than sure that the problem was in the arms. For such large and wide wheels/tires as used on the truggy and with the required steering angles we could find only one solution – purpose-designed truggy suspension arms and special offset truggy wheels. With recent experience on suspension arm flex, I had a clear idea of how the arms should look and also the required flex. You know what is coming now... to make the new arms required a completely new mould, so the whole project had to be delayed. After several months of testing the XT8 with the new arms on the test track, the difference was unbelievable (in a VERY good way)! The truggy was handling very comfortably and it was super easy to drive.

Truggys: Panther Gator Truggy tyres (1176 Reads)
Posted by admin on Monday, June 04, 2007 - 03:46 PM

Horizon Hobbie UK

Panther have increased the range of truggy tyres to now include the Gator tread pattern. This tread pattern is one which has been used on hard packed dirt and worn grass and at the first Truggy National of the year was the choice of certain A finalists.
Panther now have a complete range of suitable truggy tread patterns so there is always something to work on any racing surface. Plus added with the choice of compound you can fine tune and optimise all of the traction available to you on race day. As with all Panther tyres they are moulded with consistency and cured in such a manner to ensure even hardness across the complete tread pattern. This then offers an incredibly even wear pattern, tyre stability under high loads and an even foot print for maximum traction and drive forward. Panthers MT Gator - a must for any truggy racer in the UK.

Losi 8ight T Assembly Review: By PIRATERC

Following on from a very successful launch of the Losi 8ight buggy we now have the first of the new LOSI 8IGHT T Truggies arriving in the UK.  From what the world has seen what the new 8-T can do in the hands of Adam Drake and his fellow Team Losi Drivers, This should prove to be a top contender for the 2007 race season. The 8-T comes as a new concept namely Race Rollers are the latest innovation from Team Losi. Combining cutting-edge vehicle design with precise, at-the-factory assembly, Race Rollers are dialed right out of the box.

Upon opening the box first impressions are rather pleasing as it is very well packaged. I was rather pleased to see that the body shell was alreadycut out and fitted. It would simply need to be sent off to be painted and no cutting out required. As a race roller there is still a few things you need to do so with out further adeu lets get started with the few bits needed to complete the Truggy in order to get out to the track for the best part TESTING.

Team VTX made its worldwide racing debut at the 2006 ROAR Truck Nationals held in Boulder City, Nevada, September 21-24. Esteemed factory team driver Greg Waller piloted the all new Novarossi powered VTX-ST1 truggy to 40th overall out of 120+ entries. Considering the depth of the field (we beat last year's champion and third place finisher) and the fact that this was the very first time Greg got to drive the truck, the result is very positive. An extra pit stop during the main event caused Greg to just miss the bump up, but the consistent 30 second lap times showed his driving skill and the potential of his truck. We look forward to the next race. -Team VTX

Losi 8T notes (what we know this far)

- Almost the entire truck Adam Drake and Travis Amezcua are running have production specs. They didn't necessarily say this, but this is what I observed. Only the shock towers, tank, and suspension arms are pre-production.

- The 8ight-T uses most of the same components as the 8ight.

- Its narrow chassis gives the illusion that the truck is long, but it looks to be similar length of current truggies.

- No word from Losi on when it will be released.
