2012 Nitro Challenge

We are on our way to the biggest and baddest Nitro race of the year. John Piant and I are full steam ahead to the Dirt Nitro Challenge at the Fear Farm in Phoenix, Arizona. It’s been quite a long flight so far coming from Florida. It just seems for some reason we’ve been traveling too long already. Maybe it’s just that we are arriving so early compared with other races where we have been flying in on a Thursday for Friday practice. It must be a big race when you are flying on a Tuesday.

The right product at the right time combined with the right drivers made the IFMAR Worlds an event to remember for JConcepts. Victory was within grasp, close enough that one could visualize Ryan Maifield holding the trophy. However, it wasn’t to be after Maifield’s speedy Associated RC8b buggy ran short of fuel while swapping for the lead roughly 25 minutes into the A-Final.

Allison’s POV #4
Well today is Monday I think. We got back to the hotel around 7:00pm last night.

Up today at 6:00am, we were told the bus would arrive at 7am to drive us to the track.
We waited in the lobby and on the front steps of the hotel. There are at least 60 people I suppose- plus cars, radio boxes, some gear/ tool boxes. We and AE left our large bags in our container at the track. Jason and I carry just our backpacks.

Thailand immediate impressions; We’ve landed at the airport and it is huge, appears new, it’s very nice. The customs line is very long, it took us forever to clear, not sure why, no apparent delays just long and slow. Bathrooms are “American” style, nice. (hey I’m a girl it’s important)

Allison’s POV Day 1

Jason and I flew separately and met up with the rest of AE team at Hong Kong airport. From Hong Kong we take the same flight to Bangkok and then a bus … We assume … Will take us to Pattaya. Jason hopes they have enough room for all of our luggage.

The Hong Kong airport is huge and very nice. Lots of designer stores – like a mall- Tiffany, Gucci, and many more that I won’t bore the men with… However not a lot of American food spots, McDonalds was under construction, one pizza place said coming soon, another pizza pub with free wi-fi was not open. After all it was only 7am.

The 3rd annual JConcepts Clash kicked off at Lake Park in Lutz, Florida and the competition was hot and heavy as drivers from all over came to the hottest off-road event in Florida 3 years running.  The event started off very slowly with consistent rain on Thursday, severely limiting the practice on the quick and technical track layout.   As Friday came, the rains and weather disappeared but the conditions were still rather damp and the usually high bite surface was now a slick groove.   Friday morning, drivers were eager to practice and attacked the track trying to find the hottest driving lines and setups.

The North Carolina Championship Series has completed 4 of 5 rounds and this weekend was another sweep for JConcepts! Overcash R/C located in China Grove, NC hosted the event. Heavy rains hit the Carolinas prior to the event, but the track crew had the track SUPER smooth and rolled by Saturday morning. The track started as moist and packed, and by the end of the day turned into almost a blue groove with just a couple broken places, but overall a great track everyone enjoyed. The final round will be at Nitro Valley Raceway on June 27th, and driver's Chris Pace and Greg Smith are leading the points heading into the final round in buggy and truggy.

Event: North Carolina Championship Series
Date: May 30-31, 2009
Race Report submitted by: Brandon Melton

This past weekend the North Carolina Championship Series traveled north to Valley Field Raceway near the VA state line. When everyone arrived we were delighted at the new track that had been built. The layout was challenging but flowed really well with good timing. The jump faces were perfect and the landings help up great, which provided some close and awesome racing.

In Pro Buggy, Barry Pettit was able to grab TQ using qual points with two mistake free runs while turning fast laps. A mistake by Barry in the first round allowed Chris Pace to grab first round TQ. In Round 2, Brandon Melton was on a super fast run but a late mistake allowed Pettit the round 2 TQ, with Melton 2nd. Pettit put in a solid run in round 3 to take the overall TQ position.
The main event was interesting, Pace and Pettit got out to a great start, while Melton was stuck back toward the back of the pack with some early corner pile ups. Pace would lead through the first 2 pit stops, but experienced a flame out about 20 minutes into the run. Pettit assumed the lead for the next 5 minutes until experiencing some late race electrical failures. Melton had been patiently working traffic and knew that with Pace and Pettit's mishaps, running a smooth race would allow him to grab the win. Melton went on to win, with Pace fighting back to a 2nd place finish, passing Brian Hester in the closing stages of the race.

Brandon Melton   AE/Reedy/JConcepts
Chris Pace   AE/Reedy/JConcepts
Brian Hester  Losi/OS/Pro Line

In Truggy class it was Barry Pettit taking the overall TQ and win in convincing fashion with his new MBX6T. The top three finishers in the A Main would finish just as they qualified

Joey Edwards  Losi/OS/AKA

Illuzion - Losi 8ight 2.0 - Hi-Flow body

The JConcepts Illuzion body style and design are recognized world wide for the highest performance and hottest looks.  Starting in 2003, JConcepts redefined the way an R/C car looks and performs while incorporating the fastest and most unique body lines available on the market.  Maintaining a style that is aesthetically pleasing, the JConcepts Hi-Flow body for the 2.0 is a fresh hit and provides a confidence inspiring appearance to the driver.

Special consideration has been made for the Hi-Flow 2.0 body with considerations to the air filter, side guards, battery box and extra clearance around the throttle and break linkage.  Thanks to JConcepts, the Illuzion body is also a drop fit and requires no hassles when installing or removing the body.

In addition, JConcepts has taken the frustration out of the stock body design and has eliminated the front nose piece for extra durability and functionality around the front body mount.  Race inspired aggressive styling; Illuzionized cab and durable design are just some of the features that make the new Illuzion – Losi 8ight 2.0 body stand out from the rest.

Race Reports: Maifield & JConcepts Wins Nitro Fest / Worlds Warmup #2 (714 Reads)

Summer 08 - Nitro Fest / Worlds Warmup #2 -

Sunday - Around 11:30 am the Pro 1/8th buggy A-main drivers were introduced and the Farm 3 minute clock was on while drivers performed warm-ups.  A slight problem by one of the drivers delayed the start briefly but all drivers started on the clock.  Jumping out from the TQ position was Ryan Maifield with Ryan Cavalieri and Adam Drake following close behind.  From the beginning you could see the complete story as Maifield looked comfortable even at an advanced pace over the other drivers.  Ryan's buggy looked to have perfect balance for the grooved and sandy condition while maintaining an aggressivly fast pace.  Ryan pulled away from everyone while leading for almost the entire race.  Josh Wheeler briefly took the lead late in the race while Maifield made a "safe" extra pit stop.  Ryan quickly showed his speed by over taking Josh and pulling away to the finish line for a well deserved 45 minute A-main win.   Maifield's RC8 was completely equipped with JConcepts tires, wheels and accessories.

A brief interview with Ryan had him glowing about his JConcepts equipped RC8 and tire choice for the final.  "I had all my JConcepts tires mounted and ready, but in the end I went with the tire I felt most comfortable with for 45 minutes and the tire I liked best in practice.  The Double Cross mounted on JConcepts Max-ups wheels performed exactly up to my expectations and even on the abrasive surface had plenty of tread left to go more.  I'm excited about the upcoming world championships and the world level JConcepts products and accessories."

New Stuff: Double Dee's - 1/8th buggy tire (1071 Reads)
Posted by admin on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 - 07:06 AM

jconcepts

JConcepts racing tires –

"Double Dees" unleashed - First Big race, first Big win.
JConcepts Racing Tires made their debut at the 2007 Nitro Challenge in Surprise, AZ. In the hotly contested 45 minute A-main event, Ryan Maifield made it a debut to remember by winning the Pro Gas Truck class A-main with his Associated GT2 running on JConcepts "Double Dees" tires in Sticky Green Compound.
JConcepts driver Ryan Maifield stated:
"You can tell if a tire is going to work on the first lap and especially in 1/10th scale and gas truck in particular. While in the lead with 2 minutes to go, when I heard the race announcer say I had my fastest lap in the entire 45 minute A-main, I was impressed!"
JConcepts President Jason Ruona stated:
"I have been fascinated with R/C tires since I started racing in 1991. I've driven in 3-IFMAR Worlds A-main finals and been a Pro driver since 1994. Great drivers can make a lot of products look good; tires are not one of those products."
JConcepts racing tires are available in soft blue compound and super soft Sticky Green compound. Please view the JConcepts Tire Application chart for thread pattern and compound suggestions.
Although, the first major event for these tires, they have been under development for nearly a year. Rigorous testing by qualified drivers and designers make for ideal racing products.
JConcepts - Will, Vision, Desire, Strength and Creativity.

JConcepts – Rulux – 1/8th truck Half-ups wheels are 3.75” bead mounting diameter and designed for low profile 1/8th truck tires.
