Latest News: Eugene Cheng Memorial Race on 12th of Feb, 2012 at KRC, China (432 Reads)

Race AKA

It has only been a month since the Chinese R/C community lost one of it's early pioneers of off-road racing. On Feb 12th, 2012 60 racers gathered at the KRC track for the first annual Eugene Cheng Memorial Race.

Being that Eugene was a very close personal friend, this race had very special meaning to me. All of us in the Chinese R/C community thought there would be no better way to pay tribute to our lost friend than through a memorial race. To further honor Eugene his two favorite classes were the only classes to run. 1:8 Buggy and 1:10 4WD EP Buggy.

The race began with a moment of silence and then qualifying was started. I was very happy so many racers turn out on such short notice for the event and it made me even more motivated to win this race for Eugene in the 1:8 Buggy class.

While my qualifiers were all disrupted by traffic I was still able to qualify second and I knew I had the pace to race for the win in the main event. The A main started very cleanly and allowed all the racers for settle in for a nice long battle on the track. I battled with the top qualifier for the entire race, but after the 45 minutes had expired I was able to take the win by 6 seconds! My DNX-408 on AKA IMPACT Super Soft tires (14007SR) was flawless all race!

I would like to dedicate this win to my great friend Eugene. You will be dearly missed!

Jared Tebo first put the competition on notice by taking TQ in Pro Truggy closely followed by fellow AKA teammate and current World Champion Cody King. Jared went on the next day to also take the Pro Buggy TQ spot in convincing fashion by taking the first two rounds with 10 lap runs. Jared had two of the three 10 lap runs in Pro Buggy at the event.

Race AKA

AKA is proud to reveal the "last bullet in the clip" for our assault on the 2010 IFMAR World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand. To compliment the release of the EVO wheel and the IMPACT tire, the new soft red insert was designed to decrease the lateral deflection of the tire while at the same time increasing the vertical impact absorption therefore providing better handling in the bumps.

Cody King takes JBRL round #3 in 1/8 buggy
This past weekend was round #3 of the JBRL gas off road series. With over 200 entries on average for a one day race this race draws some of the best racers from all the manufacturers. With rain earlier in the day the mains were cut short to only twelve minutes. With a small mistake from Adam Drake, Cody King took the lead and never looked back. Cody choose AKA super soft AKA Gridirons (#14003V) to get him out front. Cody was closely followed by AKA's Jeremy Kortz who finished second overall.
