Piraterc Have caught up with Team Hong Nor Driver and
SMD Owner Jamie Booth for
an interview Click Read More to see what Jamie Had to say

Driver Name: Jamie Booth
Country: England
Occupation: Managing Director of SMD (Spire Model Distribution LTD)
Age: 39
Years Racing: 29
Classes Raced: 1/8th off road and previously raced 1/10th Electric off road
seriously and had a dabble at 1/10th electric touring cars, 1/12th scale,
1/8th on road. Apart from 1/12th scale i don't like on road. It's not for me.
Sponsors: SMD, Hong Nor, GO, CML, Byron, Proline, Oople
Piraterc: Firstly Thank you for taking time out to speak to Piraterc
Jamie: No problem.
Piraterc: What is your impression of the Hong Nor X1CR FT BB Buggy and what have
the results been like during testing / racing ?
Jamie: The new buggy is an evolution
of the built proof X1CR pro kit. The new parts build on the strengths the car
has always had. The bigger shocks really make a huge improvement to the car on
rough ground and improve the handling in all conditions. The other new parts
make the car easier to live with and more bling !
Piraterc: You are running Go engines for the 2008 what is it about Go engine
that made you choose it above all the other new options available?
Jamie: In the middle of 2006 I heard about a new company called GO, one of the
owners used to work at another engine company and so he already had the
knowledge and expertise to build a reliable cost effective race engine. I
received the samples for testing and found they offered power and performance
comparable to anything else out there, but they had sensible price tags. SMD
decided to distribute them and naturally I would use them myself. We don't sell
anything without testing it myself first, so I am fully confident in any
products that we sell.
Piraterc: How do you feel about your chances for the 2008 BRCA National title
with the new car?
Jamie: I am getting quiet old now and
family commitments mean I can't practice very often (or at all) so 2008 will be
tough, especially with lots of top electric boys racing like Darren Bloomfield,
Lee Martin, Cree, Barton etc.. I would still hope to make the top 10 or so in
the national championships and hope to be fast on the neutral tracks where no
one has practised.
Piraterc: How do you feel about racing alternate classes?
Jamie: I like off road racing the
best, and I prefer nitro, but electric off road is fun and the cars are really
fast now with the brushless systems.
Piraterc: What are your plans for the future with RC racing?
Jamie: To continue to have fun with
my friends at races, if I do well it's a bonus.
Piraterc: What do you like best about rc racing?
Jamie: Making friends and having a
laugh. That's what its about, many seem to forget that.
Piraterc: What would you consider your biggest achievement to date?
Jamie: 3rd place at the IFMAR Worlds
for 1/8th off road.
Piraterc: Who is your most admired driver/ drivers and why?
Jamie: Dave Bailey and Mike Cradock -
for being true friends.
Piraterc: Besides RC what do you like to do in your free time?
Jamie: I love to spend time with my
son George and my wife Natalia and I really enjoy mountain biking, though I only
like it when the weather is not wet.
Piraterc: What big race events are you looking to attend this year?
Jamie: Neo race, its going to be fun.
The track will be good and consistent, I wont get wet, there is plenty of time
between runs and it's only about 1.5 hours from my house. There will be lots of
old friends there, so it will be really nice.
Piraterc: Any last thoughts?
