Race Reports: Hazelwood wins a Classic (767 Reads)

CML Distribution

The 7th and penultimate round of the BRCA 1/8th Off Road series turned into a belter of a race in which Jon Hazelwood took the victory.

The qualifying sessions saw Hobao team driver Graham Alsop take the pole position with his RB/Byron/Proline equiped Hyper 8.5, and with it the extra point that may prove crucial in his fight for the championship with Neil Cragg. Neil on the other hand had some terrible luck in qualifying which saw him end up pole in the 'B' final. Also qualifying directly into the main final were Craig Dresher, Lee Martin and Elliott Boots.

The main final saw Pole man Graham Alsop make the worst possible start by rolling on lap 1 right in front of the pack which put him back to about 10-11th by the ned of the first lap. After 20 minutes Graham had fought his way back into contention and at this stage we had 5 drivers well in the hunt for the win. These were Graham, Jon Hazelwood, David Crompton, Craig Drescher and Elliott Boots. Graham, David and Craig were all making 10 minute fuel stops and Graham had made great use of that to leap over the middle order at the first round of stops.

Going into the final 5 minutes Graham had the lead from Jon Hazelwood, Jon really put the hammer down to catch Graham and he closed the gap to about 1 second at which point Graham made the error at the end of the straight, this let Jon nip through and control the race to the flag.

Race Reports: Kyosho Cleans Up at the RC X-Games! (908 Reads)

kyosho

Kyosho team driver Ryan Lutz TQ'ed and won both Pro Buggy with his MP9, and Pro Truggy with his ST-RR - both featuring Sirio power and the buggy featuring AKA tires, wheels and inserts. Lutz dominated both classes, winning each 45-minute final by 3 laps over the second place finisher.

In the buggy class, Lutz got the holeshot and never relinquished the lead, even during pit stops. Lutz's average lap times were 2.6 seconds a lap faster than eventual second place finisher Thielke, which enabled Lutz to lap the entire field at least twice. Lutz crossed the line three laps ahead of Kyosho driver Kendall Welch. Running a 777 WC car with AKA tires and wheels, Welch was in good shape to take second place, but an untimely crash on the last lap allowed Thielke to take second. Welch was far enough ahead of fourth to keep a podium position finishing in third place.
